Tiki-Jo was located in sunny Santa Monica CA, inside the newly renovated Miramar Hotel. It opened in July 1959, and your magical experience began when you walked through the wishbone entrance made from ribs of a whale. The decor featured an Eli Hedley carved tiki, tables from monkey pod wood, tiny waterfalls spilling over giant clams, fishing nets, thatch, all overlooking the hotel’s Rubber Tree. The Cantonese buffet was complimented by a full tiki cocktail menu, and the house favorite was the Navy Grog for $1.60. There was nightly entertainment and dancers, and many a local celebrity liked to hang out at Tiki-Jo.
It’s not clear when Tiki Jo closed, but the hotel is still there as the Fairmont Miramar Bungalows.
