The Mai-Tai - Niles, Illinois

$ 28.00

Located in Niles, Illinois, The Mai-Tai room was a Polynesian restaurant and lounge attached to the Mill Run Theatre, and  featured “the most exciting food” and “exceptional island drinks.”  The Mai-Tai had a thatched roof ceiling, bamboo and leopard skin booths and murals of the South Pacific, but the highlight was the entertainment.  If you were a lucky guest, you experienced Prince Tafili and the Samoans - a group of 8 dancers, singers and instrumentalists that performed a South Seas revue.  Prince was a well known fire knife dancer who, along with his brother, won the first Fire Knife Dancing Championship in Hawaii in 1968 and went on to bring the art to Hawaiian tourism.

There isn’t much information on dates but the Mill Run Theatre opened in 1965 and closed in 1984.
