In 1954, The Outrigger opened in the swanky Cosmopolitan Hotel on the corner of E 18th and Broadway in Denver Colorado. Guests were “… exported to a different world… one of curios from remote shores…” The decor featured giant shell lamps, blowfish, fishing nets along with unique Polynesian carvings and South Seas Mosaics on the walls.
The restaurant was known for its Polynesian Delicacies and enticing beverages within its relaxing island atmosphere. I would hope after enjoying a few beverages you would “… enter this Other World [where] everyday problems take their proper proportion”.
The restaurant/bar later changed to Trader Vic's Outrigger in 1962 and closed in 1978 when it moved to the Denver Hilton.
