"For an exciting South Seas adventure in good dining…" Kon-Tiki Ports, located on Miracle Mile in the Sheraton Chicago, was one of Steve Crane’s 8 restaurants, which included 4 other Kon-Tikis and The Luau in Beverly Hills. Opened in 1962, the Kon-Tiki Ports had 5 themed rooms, including the tiki inspired Papeete. Each room represented a Pacific Port of Call, with corresponding decor and cuisine. The Papeete room had two softly lit waterfalls, fish nets, a canoe, spears and several tiki gods that were carved from tree trunks by an ex-army Captain.

Patrons would "delight in authentic food and cocktails served in Polynesian splendor." Drinks in the Papeete had flaming volcanos, elaborate garnishes, and were all served in a large selection of tiki mugs. Cocktails ranged from the classic Zombie and Scorpion, to more unique drinks like Dr. Wong of Tahiti, Tropical Itch and served in a ceramic rum barrel was Steve’s Barrel of Rum for $2.25. (the menu warned customers “before ordering a third, better call your insurance man.”)

Today the hotel is the InterContinental, and the only remnant of the Kon-Tiki is a lava rock wall on the exterior.
