Located in the heart of Hollywood, Bob Brooks’ Seven Seas Restaurant was right across the street from the world famous Grauman’s Chinese Theatre.
The restaurant/bar opened in the mid 30s, and mimicked Don the Beachcomber just a few blocks away. The original owner decorated the Seven Seas with South Pacific motifs; the most notable feature being a corrugated tin roof which added to the ambience of nightly storms. When Brooks took over in the 60s, it is rumored that he stole some of Don the Beachcomber’s bartenders who brought with them their classic rum recipes. The restaurant became a popular supper club with nightly entertainment and attracted a celebrity following. In addition to the already tiki inspired decor, Brooks had a portrait of himself hanging on the wall by the father of velvet paintings Edgar Leeteg.
Like so many Hollywood icons, Seven Seas took an unfortunate seedy turn.
