The Tahitian, located in Studio City, was a classic tiki inspired Polynesian restaurant. Inside the restaurant there were pufferfish lights, a fire pit, outriggers hung from the ceiling, a pond, and a waterfall. The menu had Polynesian and Chinese fare, in addition to a selection of curries. The tiki cocktail menu was separated into Small, Medium, Large, Strong and Weak categories. For $1.10 you could enjoy the King Kamehameha or for $3.50 you and 3 friends could sip on a Stingray served in clamshell. The menu also had a full page dedicated to “The Romance of Rum.”
The Tahitian’s first location as in Pasadena. According to the “Tiki Road Trip” book, the Studio City location was one of was one of first casualties of slow demise of Tiki in LA”. It closed in early to mid 60s.
