Chin Tiki was a nightclub and banquet hall in Detroit, Michigan and owned by restaurateur  Marvin Chin. Opened in 1966/67, Chin designed the restaurant and was said to help with construction. The decor and ambiance included waterfalls, tiki statues, a bamboo bridge, sound of the surf, and a large black light aquarium mural. Chin Tiki was a spot known for “outrigger sized” drinks, like the Chin Tiki Punch, live music and floor shows with Hawaiian dancers and fire breathers, and it was a popular place for parties and proms.  Chin Tiki closed in 1980 and remained fairly untouched for 2 decades. In 2002, Chin Tiki was featured in Eminem’s movie “8 Mile” which spurred hopes that it might reopen. Sadly after Chin’s passing in 2006, the building was sold and like so many treasures “they paved paradise and put up a parking lot.”
