The Kai-Kai was the first Polynesian restaurant in Whittier CA. Conveniently located near Oceanic Arts, Ed Crissman had a big hand in its development including eight of his magnificent tiki carvings. The restaurant’s grand opening in 1961 made a big splash with celebrities like Caesar Romero and Jayne Mansfield in attendance. The Kai-Kai featured nightly entertainment with performers like Kalohe and her Pearl Divers, luncheon fashion shows, and of course a full tiki cocktail menu. And if you were lucky enough you grabbed a membership to their very unique Dinner of the Month Club for a whopping $12.00 for the entire year!
