The Kalua Room was located in Hotel Windsor, in Seattle WA. The opening date is estimated around the mid 1950s. Under the helm of Gwynne Austin, who brought many of his own south seas artifacts from his travels and deep sea dives, The Kalua Room whisked you away to “a new land, a new life, where sun and sand are your companions.”
Guests were greeted by 2 live monkeys, and then escorted through a maze of waterfalls, orchids, bananas and clamshells to one of many intimate dining rooms. The Kalua Room is also known as one of the first tiki establishments to include a tiki image with their name and logo, and created some of the earliest custom mugs.
