The Outrigger Room was one of four themed restaurants in Hotel Lafayette, in Long Beach CA. The Polynesian restaurant and bar was described in a print ad as having “A Bit of Tahitian Moonlight, The Kiss of the Trade-Winds, Murmuring of the Palms and the Romance of the Islands.” The Cantonese Menu was complimented by a full cocktail menu that categorized some of the drinks as small (.70 cents for a Gimlet), Medium ($1.50 for a Passionate Virgin) and Large ($3.25 for a Scorpion that serves 4.)
Opened in January 1959, the Outrigger Room became the Go-Go Room in November 1964 where guests now learned to dance the Watsui, The Mashed Potato and Twist.
