Tur Mai Kai - Kalamazoo, Michigan

$ 27.00

Tur Mai Kai, located in Kalamazoo, Michigan opened in 1969 by Seit Lum and his wife Turney, both natives of Canton, China. The Lums spent 2 years planning, traveling and researching to make their Polynesian palace as authentic as possible. The interior was designed by Oceanic Arts and included artifacts from the Orient as well as India.

Guests crossed a fish laden stream before enjoying an atmosphere of waterfalls, palm trees, carved tikis, outriggers, thatch huts and bamboo. Tur Mai Kai served American, Chinese and Polynesian fare, and a large selection of tiki inspired cocktails within their huge bamboo huts. There was nightly entertainment in the Aloha Room, and a highlight was the “mystery drink” served with much fanfare.

Locals have fond memories of the Tur Mai Kai, including one guest who remembers going there on an elementary school field trip! The building was demolished in 2004, but it is unclear when the Tur Mai Kai closed.

This t-shirt is available for Pre-Order through August 31st and will be shipping mid September.
